The performances are the strongest asset of the film. The cast, comprised of actors familiar with the indie circuit, delivers lines with a naturalistic cadence often missing in studio films. There is a palpable grit to their performances. They aren't afraid to look tired, angry, or unglamorous, which sells the struggle depicted in the script.

During the American colonial period, the Philippines was forced to shift to cash crops, nearly killing the native Liberica bean. Similarly, indie films are the underdog fighting against the Hollywood-esque tropes of Metro Manila Film Festival blockbusters.

This is a distinctly Pinoy indie touch. You don’t see this level of olfactory metaphor in mainstream romantic comedies.
