The film follows the journey of Om Prakash Makhija (Shah Rukh Khan), a lovable, energetic junior artist in the 1970s Bollywood who is hopelessly in love with the famous actress Shantipriya (Deepika Padukone, in her stunning debut). After a tragic and mysterious fire on a film set leads to their deaths, Om is immediately reincarnated as Om Kapoor, the superstar son of a film legend in modern-day Bollywood.
